I follow two family blogs, and both happen to be two of my favorites. I wasn’t sure why I was drawn to these mommy blogs, but I think I know now. I’ve learned so much from these types of blogs that I follow. Also, seeing a family develop and grow is really fascinating, even if it’s not my own.
Recently, I found yet another family/mommy blog that I for see as being one of my newest favorites. It’s called Momma’s Gone City. You may have heard of it because it’s been all over the news recently (I’ll get to that shortly).
The blog is written by the mom above, Jessica, and features her three beautiful children, cat, and puppy. One thing I really like about this blog is all of the pictures Jessica posts. She does not skimp. Each post is accompanied by many lovely photos that she takes herself.
Another thing about this blog that I love is that the family lived in NYC for quite some time… and I love NYC. Also, they just moved to Santa Cruz, which looks absolutely beautiful. And I love the ocean. Win-win for me.
Back to this blog being in the news recently. Not too long ago, Jessica and her family adopted their little puppy Theo and brought him home. Theo immediately took to Beau, Jessica’s youngest child, and would sleep with Beau every day during his nap. The pictures went viral because they are so unbelievably adorable. Search the hashtag #TheoandBeau on Instagram to see all of the pictures.
I can’t get over these pictures. They are the cutest.
It has been quite some time since I have blogged about New York City, but no worries, I still love it. I am graduating in December and, therefore, have been applying to (many, many) jobs. Since I have high hopes to go back to the city I fell in love with two summers ago, most of the jobs I’m applying for are in NYC. Needless to say, New York has been on my mind even more so than normal lately.
The woman who writes this blog (her identity is not part of the blog) will either post random things that make her love the city or will write longer-form posts that go more in-depth of why she loves NYC. I like that she combines both styles because sometimes I don’t want to do a lot of reading but more seeing.
In this post, she said she loved NYC for the creation of a new food genre: Japanese-Jewish food. This is matzo ball ramen soup from Shalom Japan, a new restaurant in New York.
The author also excepts pictures and explanations of why YOU love New York. You can submit them on her blog or you can instragram a picture with the hashtag #thisiswhyiloveny.
it stands for Breaking Bad.
In my opinion, Breaking Bad is hands down the best show ever created. After last night’s insane, crazy, amazing episode, I must blog about a Breaking Bad blog. It is one I just found, but I can guarantee I will be spending more time on it than blogs I follow religiously. Breaking Bad is my new religion.
Enter AMC’s Breaking Bad blog. Naturally, AMC was the place to look for a Breaking Bad blog since the show airs on this network. AMC does a great job blogging about everything that is going on with Breaking Bad such as Awards won, interviews with the actors in magazines or other news outlets, exclusive Q&As with the actors, behind-the-scenes videos, all information about new episodes of Talking Bad, the live after show to Breaking Bad, and so much more. Goodbye life.
Some of my favorite parts about this blog are the “Inside Breaking Bad” videos. They have the actors talk about the episode that just aired and discuss what they think is going on with their characters. Check out the Inside Breaking Bad: Season 5 Episode 13, “To’hajiilee” below.
This blog has anything and everything a Breaking Bad lover could want. I am so happy to have found this.
Recently, I’ve become infatuated with weddings. My sister got engaged a little over a year ago and a ton of her friends are getting engaged and married, so I see wedding pictures all the time. Also, a couple of my friends work for my friend’s mom’s flower shop and they bring flowers to weddings all the time and have beautiful pictures from the weddings.
Since I will be my sister’s Maid of Honor, I have been looking up wedding details ever since she got engaged. This leads me to how I discovered wedding blogs. And they are wonderful. I love seeing all different kinds of weddings and all the different details. There are so many options when it comes to weddings. You can do anything and everything. There are so many things that make weddings wonderful.
I follow two wedding blogs: Wedding Chicks and Style Me Pretty. Both do a great job at capturing all of those wonderful wedding details that make weddings so beautiful. Both blogs have great photography and include information directly from the bride, which is a nice touch. Something extra special that I like about Wedding Chicks is that they provide a little more information than Style Me Pretty. Wedding Chicks has more information about the details the bride chose, which is nice for those women looking at wedding blogs for inspiration for their own weddings.
Here are some pictures from Wedding Chicks, which focuses more on details:
Here are some pictures from Style Me Pretty, which focuses more on the bride & groom:
Style Me Pretty also includes videos! Who doesn’t love an adorable wedding video?!
I agree with Audrey Hepburn. Laughing is one of my favorite things to do. That’s why I love looking at and reading funny blogs (and re-watch episodes of Friends and The Office). There are a ton of them out there. I can’t believe how creative and clever people can be to come up with this stuff. This is another reason I love blogs. You can see the amazing talents of all these people around the world. And, yes, I do consider being funny to be a talent. Hello, Ellen DeGeneres.
My favorite funny blog, which I have been following for years, is called #whatshouldwecallme. The author takes short clips from TV shows and movies and has those explain his/her life and the things he/she experiences. It. Is. Hilarious. The blog is also very relatable for college students because the author is clearly a college student since many of the author’s posts are about law school.
Here are some posts from the blog that made me LOL:
I’m just like,
I hope you enjoy some good laughs!
Keeping with the theme of pictures, I thought I’d write about PostSecret. While some might not consider it I blog, I do because it’s updated weekly with new pictures, information, comments, and more and I check it every week along with my other blogs. In fact, PostSecret started as an experiment on Blogspot, so there’s that.
If you don’t know what PostSecret is, you’re in for a treat. PostSecret is an ongoing community mail art project, created by Frank Warren, in which people mail their secrets anonymously to Frank on a homemade postcard. Select secrets are then posted on the PostSecret website or used for PostSecret’s books or museum exhibits. How cool is that?!
The reason I like this site so much is because it’s a reminder that everyone goes through hard times, everyone has something they don’t want others to know, and that many of us go through similar things. Some of the secrets are sad, some are scary, some are funny, and some are very random; regardless, they’re all interesting to read. The author claims that the postcards are inspirational to those who read them, have healing powers for those who write them, give hope to people who identify with a stranger’s secret, and create an anonymous community of acceptance. I believe these things to be true.
Frank updates PostSecret every Sunday and has since the site launched in 2005. I think I have checked PostSecret every Sunday for the past four or five years. I’m so glad he’s continued to do this. I think it’s wonderful.
Frank travels the world presenting secrets to crowds of people at colleges all the time. Check PostSecret.com for tour dates and times. Also, you can buy the books online and in stores. They are just as wonderful. Here is a video from a PostSecret Event tour:
I think it’s true: everybody loves a pretty picture. How could you not? Photos can do so much and show so much. The number of things photography can do is uncountable. Over the years, I’ve come to love good photography, especially after studying journalism and learning about how powerful a picture can be.
Since I am a big fan of photos, I follow a ton of strictly-picture blogs. Most of these blogs are called tumblrs and there are so many out there. Many tumblrs have specific themes and others are just a collection of random pictures. Most bloggers who use tumblrs post pictures they found on other tumblrs or websites, but there are some that solely post their own photos.
Some of the non-themed tumblrs I follow are Cape Cod Collegiate and b i t of w h i m c. Both include awesome, beautiful photos of anything and everything. Basically, the authors just find pictures they like from around the internet and post them on their tumblr. Easy peasy.
I follow quite a few themed tumblr blogs. In the winter, I love to look at the tumblr winter. When I’m feeling romantic and serendipitous, I like to explore Serendipitous Romance, also known as Lost in the Moment…. There’s also a relatively famous tumblr called The The Sartorialist that I often look at. The Satoralist is a fashion photographer, and goes out on the streets all over the world and takes pictures of people wearing interesting/beautiful/odd clothing. It is such an awesome blog since the author travels so much. You can see what people from all over the world are wearing.
The reasons I really like to follow tumblrs are for inspiration or just to see some beautiful images of anything and everything around the world. There’s so much I haven’t seen and these photo-centric blogs allow me to see so much.
NYC. And this is why I follow the blog A CUP OF JO. Well, one of the reasons. The author, Joanna, lives in NYC with her husband and toddler son, so of course I like this blog. Babies, family, NYC. However, Joanna also happens to be a journalist who made her way from the bottom after moving to NYC after college. She started at Cosmopolitan and worked for many magazine over the years. It’s so nice for me to hear stories like that since I’m hoping to do the same.
Another reason I love this blog is because Joanna is very open and isn’t scared to state her opinions. Just because you have a family blog doesn’t mean you can’t mention your own opinions about something just because some of your followers might not agree. While the blog is definitely focused on motherhood now, she posts about a lot of other things too. Her posts are about anything and everything including a lot on fashion, travel, and relationships.
This blog is definitely focused on a lifestyle of more “aged” individuals if you know what I mean, but I still love this blog. Joanna is a great writer and very witty. One of my favorite things on A Cup Of Jo is her weekend post. Every Friday afternoon, she posts a bunch of links to cool things from around the web. They are usually pictures or articles or completely random stuff, but it’s so cool because it’s stuff you probably typically wouldn’t find on your own. At least I know I wouldn’t. This link, Models and Their Mothers, is just one of the links she put up this Friday.
No matter your age, I highly recommend this blog. She has received praise from many and is followed by many as well. It’s a great blog with great information. Enjoy!
