Health Nut

I recently came across a new blog that I love! I try to eat very healthy and clean during the week (and give myself eating freedom on the weekends) and exercise a lot, so that is why I love the blog Peanut Butter Fingers.

The author Julie, who is a personal trainer and healthy-food-lover, dedicates this blog to giving readers new, healthy recipes and workout ideas. She documents something or multiple things she eats each day and her workout. This blog is perfect for someone who loves healthy food and exercising because she is very creative with both and is constantly coming up with new stuff.

Today, Julie blogged about her breakfast, which was an egg white and oatmeal protein pancake with a side of sliced pear. Since she had already made one before and featured it on her blog, she linked to the recipe. She always includes a recipe for every meal she blogs about.

I love hearing about ways to make healthy food delicious and enjoyable. This is something Julie really focuses on.

In the same post today, Julie included the workout she did. I love that she details exactly what she does herself during her workouts. If I am going to follow a personal trainer, I want to know how she eats and how she works out, not just random recipes and workouts she finds somewhere.

Another thing I like about this blog is that she details her life outside of eating healthy and exercising. Obviously no one’s entire life consists of just doing these two things.

P.S. Julie’s definition of peanut butter fingers: “Take your finger, dip it in the peanut butter jar and voila! Peanut butter fingers. So simple, yet so, so delicious.” Yum!

Pinning is my Interest

While this my not exactly be considered a blog, it sort of acts like one. In fact, most of the content comes from blogs. And I absolutely love it and am on it quite a lot. Let me introduce you to Pinterest.

pinterst

The way Pinterest describes itself is “a tool for collecting and organizing things you love.” For a better description, it’s a pinboard-style photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, and hobbies. Users can browse other users’ pinboards for images, “re-pin” images to their own pinboards, or “like” photos. If you double click on photos, almost all of them lead to a website.

For instance, if you double click on a picture of a shoe, a new page might open with the website for where that shoe is from. On other instances, images might bring you to the blog where the image was originally pinned from.

Pinterest also has an easy pin button. If you are on a webpage and see an image you like, you can click the pin button, which is located at the end of the web address slot. When you click the button, the images on the page you are on pop up and you can choose the image you would like to put on your Pinterest page.

For me (and I know for many others), Pinterest inspires me. I get inspiration for clothing ideas, decoration ideas, food and recipes, weddings, pretty much everything. And I find things that I’ve never seen before. There are so many great recipes and DIY projects for anything and everything. I could, and do, spend hours on Pinterest.

Merry pinning!

DIY

I am definitely not the most creative person. Read: I am not creative at all. Whenever I see things my friends or bloggers make, I am completely shocked. Since I knew I needed a little help in the creative area, I started following do-it-yourself blogs, design blogs, decorating blogs, and basically any blog that would give me inspiration.

One of my favorite design blogs is called Little Green Notebook. The author, Jenny, is a decorator in New York City (this could be one of the reasons this design blog is my favorite). Jenny has done a ton of DIY projects and provides step-by-step demonstrations on her blog so her readers can do the projects themselves. Below are a few of my favorite DIYs that she has done. To see all of her DIY projects, click here.

I think the trim and the black paint make the room look way more sophisticated and nicer.

Now the chair looks sleek, shiny, and new. I think it looks great!

Another part of Jenny’s blog that I love are her before and afters. I love seeing the photos before she decorates houses and then the photos after so I can see everything she did and transformed. Recently, Jenny decorated Joanna Goddard’s apartment (the author of A CUP OF JO, a blog I formerly blogged about). The before and after shots are lovely.

I think Jenny is so creative and comes up with such neat ideas for houses and tiny apartments. I also love that she incorporates her family into her blog, so that viewers can see that she can do all of these things while maintaining a family life.

Switching Gears

I’ve realized that all of the blog posts I have written thus far have focused on blogs based in New York City, so I am switching gears. Today I’m focusing on a blog based in the only other city besides their own New Yorkers know exist: L.A.

The blog Cupcakes and Cashmere is written by a fashionista living in Los Angeles. Go figure. If you’re not that into fashion (or seeing what this random woman wears everyday) don’t be turned away from this blog just yet. Emily, the author, also writes about home décor, cooking and baking, DIY projects, and more.

Here's Emily modeling one of her outfits. Most of her posts are like this with a description of the clothing and where each piece is from.

While fashion is the main focus of Emily’s blog, it is most definitely not limited to it. Emily is constantly trying out new recipes and making meals and treats from scratch. It’s actually quite unbelievable how many different things she tries making at home. I think she’s brave for making homemade donuts, candy, gnocchi, bagels, pretzels, Cheez-Its, and more. Personally, I don’t think I would ever attempt to make those things. Maybe that’s just because I’m not the greatest chef, which Emily clearly is.

Not only is the author of this cutesie blog an awesome chef, she also is great at crafting. She makes homemade gifts all of the time. She has even made her own stationary, candles, teabags (what?!), and more. Emily often gives her clothes and accessories makeovers as well. From purses to sunglasses to button downs, she’s done it all.

Some other things that Emily features on her blog are decorating and some traveling. She is constantly purchasing new things to decorate her (and her husband’s) home and rearranging furniture and what not. She’s clearly a very creative person. I also like the fact that she does a good amount of traveling. Not a lot but a decent amount. She was recently married and went to Italy for her honeymoon, she also frequents New York (woohoo!) for interviews and other things related to fashion, and she travels to places close to L.A. or other towns in California.

Overall, Emily has a blog that covers a lot of different things, which is most likely the reason why it has been so successful. She even wrote a book, which was also very successful, based on the stuff she covers on her blog. While I most likely won’t make most of the stuff she cooks or attempt any of her DIY projects, I still love her blog. She’s a good writer and branches out further than fashion. I suggest anyone interested in home décor, fashion, and cooking to check out Cupcakes and Cashmere!
